Yes, I called him an idiot. I would’ve thrown fool, nitwit, and jackass in there too but I didn’t want to make the title overly long. I was thinking about ranting about that guy that said something about how it’s worse when a white person says bitch as opposed to a black person, but since I keep hearing the college kid screaming on every news station I put on today, he wins out.
In case you haven’t heard about this let me catch you up real quick. John Kerry came to the University of Florida to give a speech and take questions from students on Monday. Andrew Meyer, who is obviously an attention whore or just generally not that bright, came up to the podium and started asking Kerry wacky questions like why he didn’t contest the 2004 election, were Kerry and Bush members of secret society in Yale, and whether Bush should be impeached. He went on forever, not even allowing Kerry to answer his questions and after using his allotted time, he threw a temper tantrum, refusing to allow others to ask questions and arguing that Kerry got to talk for two hours so he should too or something like that.
Campus security started to escort Meyer out when Meyer decided to fight them, screaming like a loon and dropping f-bombs. His refusal to cooperate resulted in an officer pulling out his tazer. Meyer continued to fight while yelling he wasn’t doing anything wrong. Despite comical pleas of “Don’t tazer me bro!”, he was shocked with 50,000 volts. He screamed while being shocked, and as I mentioned the new stations are all repeating it over and over again to the point where I’m wishing they would’ve put the tazer in his mouth before hitting the trigger.
So why is the media covering this outside of the sensationalism factor? They’re actually asking the question “Should Meyer have been tazered?”. Some students at the university are even protesting. This is all despite the fact that Meyer created a chaotic scene by fighting officers that attempted to escort him from the premises because he was acting like a twit. When they tazered Meyer, in the video it’s obvious he was laying down and refusing to cooperate. What else were they supposed to do, let him have his way? Give up and say “Ok Andy, go up there and continue to talk, don’t make any sense, don’t let anyone else ask any questions, and make a spectacle of yourself.”? Meyer obviously wasn’t walking out of there. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech and I find it utterly hilarious that people that are falling over themselves to say that Meyer was somehow being censored and this is a perfect example of police brutality.
It’s similar to how protesters make fools of themselves in an attempt to fight whatever good fight they think they have, not realizing that dressing up like pink statues of liberty and screaming at the top of their lungs kill whatever argument they had right off the bad because no one’s going to take them seriously. That’s a rant for another day though. In this case, Meyer didn’t seem to be attempting to make any kind of point unless his goal was to look controversial or something.
In closing, Andrew Meyer wins the U Suxxors award this week for suxxing. There’s multiple videos of the incident on youtube but I found one in particular that clearly allows you to hear the police officers telling Meyer to put his hands behind his back while Meyer refuses to comply with their instructions. Ironically this particular video was put by someone that wants people to call the university and protest. You’d think they’d have put up a video where you couldn’t make out the cop’s words.

You have 6 cops pinning a single student. Police brutality means the excessive use of force. It was hardly necessary to tazer him in order to remove him from the room. If you can’t handcuff a single person with 6 cops, you need some proper police training. With 6 cops, the appropriate course of action would have been to remove him from the forum’s audible range, put him under handcuffs, and take him to jail.

Very good point Jack Thompson. What message are we trying to send here. No doubt the kid needed to be removed, why the violence? Good job America.

They did try to remove him without violence. They were carrying him out, and he broke away and ran around like a fool. Were they supposed to just keep chasing him around? Why couldn’t he follow directions? Why did he keep resisting? The only answer anyone’s been able to give to that question is one involving secret government conspiracies and silencing the public. He had a choice, and he made the wrong one. I was fine with this, maybe it taught people to listen to police when they give you instructions. Like Jack Page however, I’m for being more tough on criminals. The argument really comes down to differentiating philosophies.
I have changed my view on tasers since this incident however, since they appear to be lethal on rare occasions. Perhaps a better, more safer device is in order. I do believe that if you’re going to act like a wild animal in the presence of law enforcement, you really shouldn’t be surprised if you end up being treated as such. There wouldn’t have been a problem if he simply complied with instructions.

Sorry, was so upset some typos got in there. plus your page lost some of my sentences.
SO here is the complete version.
The Kid was asking a question!
a pro kerry softball question at
that! a bit long winded, but kerry was more than ready to answer it.
IT’s a college, with an OPEN FORUM, with a political person,
with OPEN QUESTIONS. he has a right to ask john kerry what color his underwear is if he so wants!
and he didn’t disrupt anything.
kerry was going to ans. the kids questions! the cops came in and disrupted the kid! and why didnt they turn off the mic? or just remove it? no, lets tackle the kid. and taser the poor kid after that. well hell, the kid, he just wanted an answer. so of COURSE hes like what the hell??? i asked an easy question? why all this.
seriously.. you cant tell me you wouldn’t be like huh? if 6 cops rushed you for asking a question, that wasn’t really that bad or an “angry” question.
tasers are for ending a VIOLENT CONFLICT IN A NON VIOLENT WAY.
the kid NEVER threatened anyone
DID NOT HAVE ANY WEAPONS.
He was doing what everyone else was doing… asking a question!
your tellng me 6 cops cant get 1 college kid out of a room without a taser???
The cops disturbed the assembly. and incited a riot. NOT the kid. what, free speech doesnt apply at an open mic???
the kid wasnt really being negative or aggresive in anyway. until 6 cops surrounded him.
have you seen the WHOLE video or just the minuet and a half cnn put up????
