You know what I hate?
I hate it when news stations, particularly 24 hour news stations, cover either really stupid stories, or common sense stories. A couple days ago I did an article about CNN after they reviewed a relationship study they conducted that revealed people are wary of attractive people because they’re afraid they may steal their mate. I’m shocked the following story wasn’t that the sky is in fact blue.
MSNBC however has been particularly grating on my nerves the last few days. Yesterday, they ran a story about a different relationship study. In this study, it was determined that women don’t enjoy sleeping with men but men enjoy sleeping with women. No, we’re not talking about sex, just sleeping. Now this story isn’t quite as ridiculous as the CNN one and I wouldn’t have even taken notice of it probably except MSNBC decided to cover it every 15 minutes. I swear, this is not an exaggeration. This damn story must’ve come up 200 times yesterday before they finally switched over to their nightly shows like Hardball.
Today, the story of choice is whether or not Barack Obama did or did not continue to wear some kind of 9/11 pin on his shirt days after the attacks. They brought “experts” in to talk about this absurd story and it actually turned into a talk about the type of outfits Hillary Clinton wore and whether or not they prevented her from being able to wear one of these pins. No, don’t laugh, this is obviously an important matter and could have a serious hand in determining who will ultimately be in the fight for the position of President of the United States.
Excuse my choice of language but WTF?
For the life of me I don’t understand 24 hour news. For one it’s not really 24 hour news unless there’s a major breaking story. MSNBC for example during the weekday will stop airing news and discussion after 9PM or 10PM so they can air those prison documentaries. I’m surprised they haven’t looked into having their own prison channel because they sure love their prisons documentaries. On the weekend it’s prison documentaries with the occasional A&E style crime story for the majority of the day.
During the morning and early afternoon when they cover news, they cover studies that leave you wondering who gave the green light to research such useless tripe, they cover celebrities, or they find really ridiculous political news to cover such as the Obama pin incident. These stories are repeated every 15-20 minutes. You can’t find anything else to cover? There’s no car chases or holdups going on? You can’t use the time to cover political candidates that maybe voters don’t know anything about because you never talk about them?
That’s another thing actually. I’m sick of stations like CNN and MSNBC proclaiming themselves the go-to channel for election coverage when they don’t cover everyone. If I listened to the news stations for my political coverage I’d be convinced the only people that want to be president are Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, Romney, Thompson and McCain. How is that complete political coverage? I want to hear about the other people running. I want to hear their ideas and views. I want to hear about this Ron Paul guy everyone’s talking about on the net. If the only coverage you have to tell me is a story about how Hillary Clinton may be wearing clothes too revealing and that it could possibly affect her election bid, it’s really time to look for something more informative to talk about.
I mentioned celebrities back there too and while CNN doesn’t seem to pay as much attention to them, MSNBC at times appears to be aspiring to become the next E! Channel. MSNBC is just downright embarrassing when something is going on in the world of celebs. Anyone that suffered through their Anna Nicole Smith coverage and the hell that was the Paris Hilton trial knows what I’m talking about. Every time a celebrity sneezes, MSNBC is there with a handkerchief. Their troop of female reporters turn into giddy teenyboppers whenever it’s time to talk about the latest socialite happenings. I have nothing against celebrity coverage when it’s your job to do that. TMZ and the E! Channel cover celebrity news. When I want to hear about the latest in the Britney Spears custody case, I’m going to check them out, not a channel that’s supposed to be covering real news.
I think it’s time to leave the History channel on in the background during work more often. At least I’ll learn something, even if it’s from a few hundred years ago.
