I didn’t want to make another post about another TechDirt article because it makes it seem like I’m leeching off their news but dammit this is too great to pass up. If you thought Cary Sherman’s online rant was something, the Copyright Alliance ran an expo last Thursday on Capital Hill. The Copyright Alliance is made up of folks from the RIAA, the Motion Picture Association of America and others. Apparently not too many people showed up and Mike Masnick at TechDirt believes it’s because people are realizing the tide is shifting. You’d think the RIAA might pick up on that as well considering all the musicians jumping ship on them. But no, the RIAA had a piece of evidence at the expo that shows they still don’t have the foggiest clue.
They had t-shirts that read “Feed a Musician - Download Legally”
There’s so many things wrong with this of course. The fact that musicians don’t see anywhere near as much money from overpriced CD sales as the excutives do. The fact that starving musicians are so dependent on the RIAA that they’re leaving the record industry while seeking other outlets to release their music to their fanbase.
So remember, the next time you see Madonna sitting on a street corner with her shopping cart of belongings next to her, toss her a nickle will ya?
