Live Science has an article up today about how Civil War soldiers used to spread rumors in an attempt to keep morale up during the war. While most of the rumors were fairly normal, such as telling buddies Ulysses S Grant was actually dead, one wonders what other kinds of secrets were told amongst troops in those days. The article declares that the tales told became more and more outlandish as time went on. Now I have this picture in my head of manly men sitting around a fire talking gossip in airhead valley girl style voices. Someone needs to make one of those identity theft commercials in that vein.
I swear I’m not mentioning this just because I wanted to draw the picture to the right. Really.
