Times Magazine released a list this week of the top 25 horror movies of all time and coming in at number 20 is the Disney classic Bambi. Some people are screaming bloody murder over this, no doubt horror movie aficionados upset to see a cartoon about a deer listed alongside stuff like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Psycho but I’m here to be a voice of reason. Have any of you ever watched Bambi? No recently, but I mean when you were a kid. If you didn’t, you’re probably not going to understand why the movie fits. If you did, you probably shudder a bit at the memory. Talking deers, death, trauma. That movie was one of the most frightening things you could ever be exposed to early on in your life. Just scary. I still don’t look at deer the same way. When you grow up, you watch something like Saw either for the twists and turns or to see what innovative way they’re going to kill someone. It goes away though, you don’t feel scared afterward. Bambi … Bambi stays with you man. It %(#&ing stays with you.
