Blogging On Blog Nothing Day

Blog Nothing DayI stopped by Mashable this morning because I really dig that blog and what do I behold but the news that bloggers are coming together in support of the Writers Guild of America by organizing a Blog Nothing Day on November 26th. Oops, that’s today isn’t it. My bad, I honestly didn’t know about this until now. I’d heard rumblings about bloggers striking for awhile now and assumed it would never happen.

To be honest, I find the whole thing silly for much the same reason Mark Hopkins does and I think other bloggers would be wise ponder it. We’re not with the WGA. Last I checked, I wasn’t receiving any sort of union benefits but of course if I am, I’d love to hear about them because I’d love me some benefits. An insurance plan too if I can get it. Oh, and if some celebrities can bring me cake and treats, I’ll never be mean to you again.

Look, I support the writers, but the fact is we’ve got nothing to do with them, the studios, or the strike. Whether their demands are met or not, our lives will march on unchanged. There’s bloggers coming out now in an almost defiant manner declaring their support for the writers, almost as though this is some sort of dangerous act that may possibly lead to the studios sending hired killers their way to silence them. I don’t think from the beginning of this whole mess I’ve heard one person say they support the studios except the studios themselves. You’re not making some sort of controversial statement. No matter how hard bloggers try to philosophically tie themselves into the strike for some reason, the studios aren’t paying the least bit of attention to you because no money changes hands with you. It’s as effective as me holding my own personal strike against Aqua Dots even though I’m 26 years old and I have no kids. You’re not making any difference at all.

You can all continue to hold your little support strikes, and I’ll be sitting here attempting to sway your readers over to the darkside with kindergarten level stick figures and silly celebrity rants.
